Hello, Okotoks - we're thinking of you. Looking like winter in June isn't the greatest start to summer but it's always good for conversation. There are times when we Canadians seem to talk of nothing else! We have good reason, though, since we see such extremes in our weather and it has such an impact on so many aspects of our life. Our work, recreational activities, the environment and the buildings in which we live and work can all be affected by the weather.
A perfect example of this is the recent hailstorm in Okotoks. Although many of the reports said the hail damage could have been worse, we've seen evidence there of roof, siding and gutter damage that has the potential to be a real problem for homeowners.
A regular exterior maintenance program is always advisable, but particularly after a storm it is very important to check your roof, skylights, siding, gutters and soffits for damage or anything that might weaken your home's ability to do its job.
Look for blown-off or loose shingles, asphalt grit on sidewalks or patios, dented or pierced siding and gutters: anything that looks out of the ordinary should be inspected so potentially harmful issues can be dealt with.
